One Cupcake or Two?

Posted on

Last night I played along with the Virtual Stamp Night Challenges on SCS. They are a lot of fun and since you only have 45 minutes to complete each challenge I stuck with Clean and Simple Sketches. All of the sketches on these cards are from Clean and Simple Stamping.

The first challenge was to make 2 of the same card.  The other rule was they had to have fun colors and there was a list of possible themes.  One was food, so I went with my cupcake stamp from Wagon Full of Fun and the Sentiment from Sweet Little Sentiments.  Paired with Walk in the Park designer series paper I love how it turned out.

Here are both cards sidey by side. Aren’t they fun?

Stamps: Sweet Little Sentiments, Wagon Full of Fun
Paper:Kraft, Cameo Coral, Walk in the Park dsp, Kiwi Kiss, Whisper White
Ink: Basic Gray, Chocolate Chip, Cameo Coral, Summer Sun, Kiwi Kiss, Whisper White craft
Accessories:AquaPainter, Circle Scissors, eyelet border punch, mat pack, dimensionals, Baja Breeze double stitched ribbon, glue dot, Button Bouquet buttons, linen thread
Techniques:watercoloring

The second challenge was to make a wedding card with non-traditional bright colors. I don’t know if this is really considered bright, but it is to me. I used Pixie Pink paper and Pink Passion ink. Two colors I rarely use just because they are out of my comfort zone. I paired it with Old Olive and Kraft and to me these are non-traditional wedding colors.

Stamps: All Holidays
Paper:Kraft, Old Olive, Pixie Pink, Whipser White
Ink: Pink Passion
Accessories:Big Shot, Manhattan Flower, White Organza ribbon, dimensionals

The third challenge was to use Red, Black and White. I chose Riding Hood Red, Basic Black, Whisper White and some Candy Lane designer series paper. The stamps are from A Beautiful Thing and Very Versatile. It’s nice and simple, but yet it makes a bold statement.

Stamps:A Beatiful Thing, Very Versatile
Paper:Basic Black, Whisper White, Candy Lane dsp
Ink: Riding Hood Red, Basic Black
Accessories: Stamp-a-ma-jig

This 4th card is based on a late night snack with Elvis of fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches. The card had to include music and the colors Barely Banana, Creamy Caramel and Close to Cocoa. I didn’t have any music stamps so I drew in a few notes that the little bird is singing. I did stick to the color scheme.

Stamps: A Kind Word, Sweet Little Sentiments, Pretty Petals background
Paper:Creamy Carmel, Barely Banana, Close to Cocoa, Whisper White
Ink:Basic Gray, Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel, So Saffron, Blush Blossom, Cocolate Chip, Ruby Red, Old Olive
Accessories:cutters tool kit, sponge, AquaPainter, dimensionals, mat pack, Latte button, mini glue dot, linen thread
Techniques:watercoloring

I hope you enjoyed these quick and fun cards.  I have  Product Spotlight video for you tomorrow.

  1. Oh wow Jenn! I love the first cupcake cards the best, but the others are gorgeous also. I always take a peek at your cards through Google Reader, but I’m lazy and don’t take the time to leave a lot of comments. I’m so glad that today I clicked and viewed them through your blog because the images are larger! Your cards are so fresh and fun – thanks for sharing your work 🙂

  3. Wow! You’re a stamping rock star!

Your cupcakes are the bomb! I love the color theme for the card and the eyelet scallop is a perfect touch for this card.

Your wedding card is bright, but bright is “in” right now. I just did some cards using Pixie Pink and Gable Green for a bride – her wedding flowers were bright, pink tulips. It really looked great when it was all put together, but I wouldn’t have ever thought about those colors for a wedding!

I love the song notes on your last card. Way to use your head to make this challenge card work! I would have been brain dead after making that many cards in a row!

  5. Jenn, FYI I read all my blogs in Google Reader, and sometimes end up in a daze looking at card after card, until I get roused awake by some art that stands out in the crowd and makes me sit up and take note. . . of course your blog is almost always the one that ROCKS! Well done on the cupcakes, makes me happy I bought the circle scissors. I’m off to CASE. Thanks a million for the inspiration!

  7. All so pretty!

Quick question…I’m thinking of getting the eyelet border punch you used on the first card so a friend loaned me hers…do you have trouble lining it up when you have a large piece – usually the fours or so punch I make mucks up the small holes that overlap… Is it just me?

  8. I love the cupcake cards! May I ask, is the ribbon you use already stitched on the edges like that or did you have to do that yourself? Is it a special type of ribbon that won’t fray on the ends? Thanks!

  9. Oh, I’m sorry — I see you’ve listed the ribbon in the “ingredients”! Sorry — I’m very new to stamping and just learning to feel my way around.
