Critter Thanks

We survived having 4 boys over for pizza, cake and Wii games on Friday night and Colin was thrilled with his new iPod Touch. I think he started something among his friends now because they all want one. On Saturday morning he picked Roger to go along on his Jesus Day Retreat so I stayed home with Evan and got started on his Thank You notes for his birthday. I had mentioned that I got myself a Cricut Expression for my birthday and I had a chance to play with it. I used Create a Critter for the little worm on these notes. He is cut from Certainly Celery and Tangerine Tango. The Cherry Cobbler is die cut from the same cartridge and then I used a Texturz Impression plate to add the large Polka Dots to it.  I’ve been having lots of fun adding texture and playing with it instead of just reaching for some dsp lately. The background is made from Certainly Celery that was embossed with the Lattice Embossing Folder. The Tangerine Tango strip was run through my crimper and then the Crumb Cake base was stamped with the retired Polka Dot background stamp from Stampin’ Up!. The sentiment is from Trendy Trees. The color combo for this card came from the ColourQ challenge 80.

On Friday I went down to the Regional Superintendents Office and started the process of getting my Sub Authorization. So this morning I had to go get finger printed. I haven’t had to do this in 10 years and it’s all computerized now. The next step is to get a work physical and a TB test. I have those set up at the beginning of May. I then have to take all of the paperwork back to the Superintendents Office and I should be set. I just have to go to the main office for the School District and fill out some paperwork and I’ll be all set to go back to work this fall. I haven’t worked in 8 years, so this will be a whole new experience balancing the kids, home and a work schedule. At least I have the summer to transition into it.

*Now for a bit of squeamish information about my day – if you want you can stop reading here as it involves a grizzly tale of hunter vs. prey*

Colin, Evan and I were headed out of the door so that Colin could meet the bus and I could drive Evan to school. His friend comes running and yelling for him to hurry down to the bus stop. Colin is down there for 5 seconds before he starts running back home to let me know that there is a dead bunny down there. The kids are all hovered over it so I went to tell Colin not to touch it since rabbit blood can be full of diseases. I thought it may have gotten hit by a car and was in the street or on the lawn, but it was up in a landscaping bed, and it was obviously eaten. My bet is that the neighborhood coyote caught it and got scared off while eating it. Colin turns to me and says, I called you because I thought you could do something about it. So after dropping Evan off at school I got out a garbage bag and shovel and disposed of the carcass. Luckily, it is garbage day and our garbage had not yet been picked up. Hopefully Colin will be happy that I did something about it.

Soft Summery Thanks

This card is a combination of the Color Challenge on SCS and the Get Sketchy #81 sketch challenge. I pulled out Soft Summer, an old favorite that hasn’t seen ink in a while. I stamped it on watercolor paper and used re-inkers to color it in.

Evan and I are heading out to plant lettuce in the garden. I read a sign in WalMart today that says that for every $1 you spend in seeds you get about $20 worth of produce according to a Better Homes and Gardens survey. I sure hope that’s true. We also started our Bell Pepper seeds and Heirloom Tomatoes in a little greenhouse kit.

Have a fantastic Tuesday.

Spring Bliss

Posted on

I think it’s supposed to be spring, but the weather isn’t yet cooperating here. So maybe if I make a nice spring like card the weather will follow, instead it’s going to be cold and rainy. I combined the sketch challenge on SCS with ColorQ #78.  I used a lot of stamp sets on this card. The Crumb Cake background is the Bliss stamp set, the main image is Sweet Summer and the sentiment is from a retired hostess stamp set Serene Spring.

Today I got an early start at the YMCA. I was afraid that if I went home I’d not go back. I was surprised to find that it is even less crowded at 8:15 in the morning than it is at 10 am. I did notice that by 9:10 when I looked down the row of elliptical trainers that every single one was taken. I must have gotten on mine just in time and set my 45 minute time limit so I wasn’t really paying much attention to anyone else at that point. I plug in my iPod and I sort of zone out things that are going on around me.

Speaking of my iPod, I have about 38 minutes of songs that I’ve put into my Cardio playlist, but I’m getting tired of listening to them over and over again, especially since I’m normally listening to it for about 1 hour 15 minutes. If you have any suggestions of songs that keep you moving while you are exercising let me know. I need to add a few more to my play list.

Have a great weekend. I’ll be back on Monday.

RAWR with Pizzazz

I decided to combine the SCS color challenge (Pear Pizzazz, Baja Breeze and Marina Mist) with My Favorite Things WSC12. I just love this dinosaur stamp set along with the sentiments. Having 2 boys in the house I find myself using it a lot for cards for them or for their friends.

The base of the card is Marina Mist, followed by Pear Pizzazz that was run through the big shot with the Friends definition texturz plate. I then sponged the edges and sewed around the border. I then stamped in Marina Mist ink onto the Baja Breeze paper with Wild Thing sentiment. I sponged the edges and again sewed around the edges.  The next layer is Marina Mist. I sponged the edges, added score lines and paper piercing and then attached it to the base layers and added the natural hemp twine bow.  The main image is stamped on Watercolor paper and colored in with Stampin’ Up! markers in Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Blush Blossom. I cut it out and attached it to Whisper White that was matted on Pear Pizzazz. I added the Brights button with linen thread to the bottom corner of the main image panel.

I’m trying to find out where this week has gone to. I have to seriously try to get both boys in swimming lessons on the same week night. We will have spent 3 evenings at the YMCA for swimming (Evan had a make up class), 1 night at Cub Scout, 1 at Religion class and the only night we have at home is Friday night. I’m exhausted and I almost don’t feel like going to the YMCA this morning. However, I am going to head out in a little bit because I know I’ll have more energy afterward.

Happy Thursday!

Modern Birthday

I combined 2 challenges for this card, the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge and Color Throwdown 134. I just wanted to play with patterns and colors with the Modern Basics stamp set from Papertrey Ink. I really love how it worked with this color combination. I think it makes for a nice bright cheery birthday card.

I have a million things I need to get done this morning and I’m going to be headed off to the YMCA in a few minutes, so this will be short and sweet. All of the supplies are listed below. If you have any questions just let me know.

And Many S’More

Yesterday we went to get Colin’s suit pants hemmed and afterward I dug through my Mom’s stamp collection and came up with this retired stamp set from Stampin’ Up! called Camp Out. I thought it was fitting since we just bought a tent and 4 sleeping bags over the weekend. It fit perfectly with the sketch from SCS and I combined it with the Color Q #77. I didn’t have Bermuda Bay or Kiwi Kiss, so I substituted Marina Mist and Wild Wasabi for those colors.

The boys are anxious to get back outside, so I’ll keep this short and sweet. They both just finished lunch and I haven’t even started on mine.  Then we are off to enjoy the last warm day of spring break. Tomorrow the high is 36 degrees – YUCK!

Stamps: Camp Out, So Happy for You
Paper: Wild Wasabi, Crumb Cake, Bashful Blue, Marina Mist, Concord Crush, Whisper White

Tango Thanks

Day 1 of Colin’s spring break is done and we are about to get started on Day 2. I’m taking Evan out of school in order to take Colin to have his 1st Communion suit tailored. It should make for a fun day. At least it’s supposed to be warmer here again today. I’m also hoping that they take snow out of the forecast later in the week.

This card combines 2 challenges. I used the Clean and Simple Sketch on SCS and the Totally Hues Challenge #3. I figured it would make for a nice bright cheery card. I loved the sketch because it let me use the Fun Flowers Bigz die and I thought it would be fun to use a non traditional flower color. After cutting it out, I sponged it, shaped it with the handle of my paper piercer and then sprayed it with Smootch spritz. I just wish you could capture the shimmer the flower has with the photograph.

Here is the flower from a slightly different vantage point.

Happy Tuesday to you! I’ll let you know how the suit tailoring goes.
