Critter Thanks

We survived having 4 boys over for pizza, cake and Wii games on Friday night and Colin was thrilled with his new iPod Touch. I think he started something among his friends now because they all want one. On Saturday morning he picked Roger to go along on his Jesus Day Retreat so I stayed home with Evan and got started on his Thank You notes for his birthday. I had mentioned that I got myself a Cricut Expression for my birthday and I had a chance to play with it. I used Create a Critter for the little worm on these notes. He is cut from Certainly Celery and Tangerine Tango. The Cherry Cobbler is die cut from the same cartridge and then I used a Texturz Impression plate to add the large Polka Dots to it.  I’ve been having lots of fun adding texture and playing with it instead of just reaching for some dsp lately. The background is made from Certainly Celery that was embossed with the Lattice Embossing Folder. The Tangerine Tango strip was run through my crimper and then the Crumb Cake base was stamped with the retired Polka Dot background stamp from Stampin’ Up!. The sentiment is from Trendy Trees. The color combo for this card came from the ColourQ challenge 80.

On Friday I went down to the Regional Superintendents Office and started the process of getting my Sub Authorization. So this morning I had to go get finger printed. I haven’t had to do this in 10 years and it’s all computerized now. The next step is to get a work physical and a TB test. I have those set up at the beginning of May. I then have to take all of the paperwork back to the Superintendents Office and I should be set. I just have to go to the main office for the School District and fill out some paperwork and I’ll be all set to go back to work this fall. I haven’t worked in 8 years, so this will be a whole new experience balancing the kids, home and a work schedule. At least I have the summer to transition into it.

Stamps: Trendy Trees, Polka Dot Background
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake, Tangerine Tango, Certainly Celery
Ink: Soft Suede, Crumb Cake
Accessories: Cricut, Create a Critter cartridge, lattice embossing folder, polka dot texturz plate, Big Shot, crimper, dazzling diamonds, googly eyes, dimensionals, 2 way glue pen

*Now for a bit of squeamish information about my day – if you want you can stop reading here as it involves a grizzly tale of hunter vs. prey*

Colin, Evan and I were headed out of the door so that Colin could meet the bus and I could drive Evan to school. His friend comes running and yelling for him to hurry down to the bus stop. Colin is down there for 5 seconds before he starts running back home to let me know that there is a dead bunny down there. The kids are all hovered over it so I went to tell Colin not to touch it since rabbit blood can be full of diseases. I thought it may have gotten hit by a car and was in the street or on the lawn, but it was up in a landscaping bed, and it was obviously eaten. My bet is that the neighborhood coyote caught it and got scared off while eating it. Colin turns to me and says, I called you because I thought you could do something about it. So after dropping Evan off at school I got out a garbage bag and shovel and disposed of the carcass. Luckily, it is garbage day and our garbage had not yet been picked up. Hopefully Colin will be happy that I did something about it.

Blissful Elegance CASE

I saw this beautiful card on SCS by Karen Barber and I knew I had to CASE it and there was very little I did to change it from it’s original.  I decided to go with a Basic Gray and Whisper White color scheme simply because I do not get along with Basic Black at all. Unless I emboss it, I smear it and I just didn’t feel like adding all of the extra steps. Along with Bliss I used the All Holidays stamp set. I think this Thank you stamp is my favorite in the entire set and I certainly use it a lot. I added a half pearl to the center of the butterfly and used Whisper White Organza ribbon. I just love the simple elegance of this card.

Today was a rough morning here. It’s hard to get out of bed before the sun is shining and the time change has the boys completely off schedule. I had to drag them out of bed and they were dragging their feet until the minute we had to walk out of the door. I’m heading to the YMCA in about an hour and tonight while Evan has swimming lessons I’m going to send Colin to the Kid Zone to run him ragged. I’m hoping that if I tire them out enough they will collapse into bed and sleep better tonight in hopes of having a smoother morning tomorrow.

Beautiful Blissful Butterflies

Posted on

Yesterday I was home with Evan. I didn’t think he had been on his antibiotics long enough to go back to school and he had a low grade fever just the night before.  It sounds like cases of strep throat and the flu are going through both of the boys schools, so it’s no wonder he picked up something. After lunch he asked if he could play PBS Kids games on the computer, so I used the time to stamp, and picked the Color Challenge on SCS. I’m not going to lie and say I just whipped this card up, it was actually a long drawn out process of trial and error. I had first thought it would be neat to add texture to the stamped background and then ended up scrapping that. I thought it would be fun to have an image panel across the bottom Concord Crush layer, but after stamping it I didn’t like it.  So I added the Polka Dot embossing and Scallop Trim punch and was finally happy.

The base is Bashful Blue and is then layered with Pear Pizzazz that was stamped with the Bliss Sale-A-Bration stamp set in Old Olive ink. I also rounded the corners with the retired corner punch and sponged the edges with Pear Pizzazz. The butterflies are die cut out of Naturals White. It is finished off with the Curly Label punch stamped with the sentiment from the So Happy for You Sale-a-Bration stamp set. I cut it in half and placed it under the Bashful Blue satin ribbon.

I am in love with this card. I love the colors together and the way the entire layout turned out. I hope you like it too.

Today is the 1st day of Lent and I’ve decided that I’m giving up Facebook for the Lenten season. Hopefully with my new found time I will be able to complete a few more stamping projects and get back into the swing of things.

If any of you use Redbox, they gave me a link that if you rent a movie through an online reservation, you will get a another code for a free movie!

Autumn Gratitude

This morning I started my library duty in Colin’s school.  It was fun to be out of the house and helping out.  I don’t get to see Colin’s class while I’m there, but I did catch a glimpse of him during the fire drill.  I haven’t had to take part in a school fire drill in almost 8 years.  From there it was right to pick up Evan and then I got some time to stamp.

I used Mercy’s Sketch for this card and it’s headed out for the mailbox today. I used Certain Celery, Cajun Craze and Soft Suede for my colors.  The background is sprayed with Smootch Spritz to break up all of the Whisper White.  I used some Chocolate Chip Satin ribbon that is retired for the bow.  The stamps are Autumn Splendor and Define Your Life.

It’s almost time for Colin’s bus and I have dinner to get done so he can make it to Cub Scouts in time.

Traditional Friendship

I am having a really hard time getting into the fall spirit when it’s over 90 degrees out today.  It’s going to be warmer then it was on Tuesday.  Fall is my favorite season so I’m not going to be happy if we go straight from summer into winter.  I like being able to wear jeans and long sleeved T-shirts and be comfortable outside.  Today I have capris and a short sleeved T-shirt on.

Today I pulled out nice rich fall colors and even used Purple with my Elegant Eggplant card stock.  This is a color I do not use very frequently.  I love it when it all comes together, but I normally have a hard time making purple work.  I have a few sheets left over from the Autumn Traditions dsp from last year.  I matted two of the patterns on More Mustard card stock and sewed around it with Chocolate thread.  I then made my main image out of Chocolate Chip and Whisper White.  I stamped the tree from Season of Friendship in Soft Suede and then used the 1 1/4″ circle punch to make leaves out of Rose Red, Pumpkin Pie and More Mustard.  I added texture to them with the Lattice Embossing Folder.  The sentiment is a Modern Label punch sponged with Elegant Eggplant ink and stamped with the Because I Care sentiment.  It is attached with dimensionals.

Here is to hoping Fall arrives before Winter does.  I’m going to try to put up a few of my fall decorations to see if that helps too.

Stamps: Season of Friendship, Because I Care
Paper: Elegant Eggplant, More Mustard, Autumn Traditions dsp, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie, Rose Red
Ink: Soft Suede, Elegant Eggplant
Accessories: sewing machine, Big Shot, Lattice Embossing Folder, dimensionals, Modern Label Punch, Sponge Dauber

Autumn Thanks

The kids are in school so I’m making the most of my morning and headed right into my stamp room.  I like to start Monday mornings with a Clean and Simple challenge to get my mind working and what a better way to start than with watercoloring.  I love to color.  It’s such a relaxing thing to do.  I pulled out a Papertrey Ink set – Autumn Abundance and got to stamping and coloring.  I used a lot of fun fall colors (More Mustard, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler and Pumpkin Pie) and then offset them with a nice cool color for the vase (Marina Mist).  I think they pair well together.  I also used a strip of retired Autumn Traditions designer series paper from Stampin’ Up! at the bottom edge that was punched with the Scallop Trim punch.

Tomorrow I have a new card for the SUO Challenge Blog.  I hope you stop by and join in on the fun!

Stamps: PTI – Autumn Abundance
Paper: Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Autumn Traditions dsp
Ink: Basic Gray, Marina Mist, Bashful Blue, Night of Navy, Cajun Craze, More Mustard, Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie
Accessories: Scallop Trim Punch, Hemp Twine, Mat pack, AquaPainter, dimensionals

Simple Thanks

Today I have a quick clean and simple card using Fall to Layout 105.  I chose to work with Concord Crush, Basic Gray, Pretty in Pink and Whisper White. The stamp sets is Year of Flowers Lily of the Valley from Papertrey Ink.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for my Sketch for You to Try card.
