An Update

Posted on

I’ve gotten quite a few inquiries about what I’ve been up to, how I am and how my family is. I can tell you that there have been a lot of changes. In June I started substitute teaching in my local school district. Colin and Evan were both going to be in school full time in the fall. As soon as they heard I was a Special Ed certified teacher they told me of their need for certified teachers in the summer. Fall came and I continued to sub at the K – 4 schools. I was working almost on a daily basis and it seemed I spent a lot of my time in the same rooms over and over again. Come October I was presented with the opportunity to possibly have a part time position as a Resource Teacher at one of the 3 grade schools. November came and I found myself working full-time as a grades 1 – 4 Resource Teacher. Life for me has been extremely busy. Eight years out of the field is enough time for things to change dramatically, especially with paperwork. Colin and Evan are doing well. Colin is in 3rd grade and is in the AT program at school. He’s competing with his team at the Team Quest finals this spring. Evan is in Kindergarten full time and loves all day school and his friends. Roger is still at the same job that moved us here. Teaching full time, being a full time mom and family life has left me no time for stamping. On the rare occasion that I do get to play with my supplies I realize how much I miss it. I’m hoping that spring break brings me an opportunity to stamp. I hope you and your families are all well.

Birthday-saurus – SFYTT

When it rains, it certainly pours.  I mentioned that Colin and Evan both have strep throat.  Evan has been moping around with a 104.3 fever.  He always gets really high fevers, and they always worry me when he is just laying around and not wanting to play or do anything.  He’s been on Motrin and Tylenol nonstop since Wednesday night to control the fever.  Then on Thursday night Roger heard something dripping in the crawl space.  It turns out that a pipe from our laundry room sprung a leak and I had to have a plumber out to cut open the wall in our laundry room and replace the section that was leaking.  I can understand this happening if our house was old, but it was only built 6 years ago.  Luckily we caught it right as it happened and it didn’t cause a big mess.

This weekend we have a birthday party for a 6 year old on Sunday.  I’m hoping that Evan wakes up without a fever today so we can hopefully go tomorrow.  I pulled out my favorite My Favorite Things stamp set, Little Loveosaurus and got to work.  I paired it up with some of my favorite Celebrations designer series paper from Stampin’ Up!.  I pulled Pacific Point, Bashful Blue, Real Red and Pear Pizzazz to work with the colors in the paper.  The 6 is covered in Whisper White craft ink and then Heat and Stick Powder.  I heated it up with my heat tool and then dumped on Dazzling Diamonds glitter before heating it a 2nd time.  You can see a little of the sparkle in this photo.

This week Jen gave us the chance to pick any previous Sketch for You to Try to work with.  This one is from January 2009.  Here is the sketch I used:

Have a great weekend!  We are preparing for 3 – 5″ of snow.  I’m not excited but I’ve heard the boys planning snowmen, snow forts and lots of time outside in it.

Thank You Dear Friend – SFYTT

It’s Saturday and that means Jen has another fabulous sketch to play along with.  It also mean another week has flown by and I can’t believe May is almost over.  This weekend is one of the first that we haven’t had a Saturday baseball game.  Instead we are headed out to have photos taken by one of my college sorority sisters.  She’s starting her own photography business here in the Chicagoland area and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen so we booked a mini session.  You can find her blog here

For the sketch today I pulled out the last of one of my favorite Razzleberry Lemonade designer series paper patterns.  I then layered it with a 2nd pattern with Rich Razzleberry Polka dots.  I tied on a piece of 1 1/4″ striped ribbon.  The main image panel is Whisper White and Pumpkin Pie.  The sentiment is from All Holidays.  I wanted to dress it up a bit and I’ve seen a lot of button trees lately so I used Trendy Trees and a Kiwi Kiss Corduroy button I had left over from the summer mini a year ago.  I then added Beautiful Wings butterflies, leaves from Bird on a Branch punch and Itty Bitty flowers.

I have to say I am not thrilled with my card.  It is what it is and I played around with it for close to 40 minutes trying to make it perfect.  My Mojo is missing this week.  Maybe it’s the stress of waiting to see who won the Artisan Award.  Maybe it’s the rainy weather and my allergies acting up.  I hope it comes back next week.  To see more inspiring samples please check out the other Sketch for You to Try Sisters:

So Far Behind

Posted on

I know I am extremely far behind on e-mail.  Apparently the hospital blocks e-mail so even though I have my computer here for the last 2 days I can’t receive any or send it out.  I know a lot of you have been asking where to send cards for my Dad.  I am collecting them because we don’t know when he’ll be moved again.  I’ll also post here when I’ve gotten cards so that he can thank you. I haven’t been home to check my mail in 2 days so I bet there may already be some there.

Today they removed the intubation tube and he is able to talk a little.  His throat is very sore and dry.  If blood gasses come back with good readings they will be able to keep the tube out, but if CO2 levels go up like the last time he will be re-intubated.  Surgery has still not been able to take place on his hand, but his body is way too weak to handle that right now anyway.

Thank you for all of the prayers and well wishes.  I’m afraid there is no way I’ll be able to e-mail everyone back, but know that I have read and will continue to read all of the well wishes that were sent to me.  We all appreciate it.

Surgery Update

Posted on

My Dad’s hip surgery went well even though it  started a lot later than we had originally anticipated.  They were supposed to start at 4:30 on Wednesday but didn’t even make the first incision until 9:30 at night.  We finally left the hospital after seeing my Dad at 3 am.  We got about 3 hours of sleep before heading back.  Somewhere in those 3 hours my Dad got irritated with being intubated and took it out itself.  They waited to see if he would do well breathing on his own, but that wasn’t meant to be.  He was re-intubated and sedated all day yesterday.  We need prayers that they will be able to wean him off of the ventilator today and that he can breathe on his own.  He can’t move forward with anything until we get through this step.  I finally came home last night after being at the hospital for the past 36 hours and I was awake for 33 of them so if my post jumps around please forgive me.  I’ll be headed back tomorrow to give my Mom a break and a chance to go home.

Thanks for all of the prayers so far.  Please keep them coming!
