The Case of Do What I Say . . . – SUO Challenge

and NOT What I Do!  Today I was supposed to have a SUO Challenge 3 project to show you.  However, do to a mistake on my part I messed up and I don’t have an actual sample to show you.  I initially had it in my head that it was a Halloween Challenge, and it was, but it was to use a Halloween set from the Holiday Mini catalog.  Then to include those that may not celebrate Halloween it was opened up to any set from the Holiday Mini catalog.  I just had in my head to make a Halloween card, so I pulled out my favorite Greeting Card Kid and Wicked Fun specialty paper and got started.  I used the Fall to Layout 109.

I hope you have a chance to participate with us!  Remember this challenge is to use ANY stamp set from the Holiday Mini catalog.  I’d have made a new sample, however, I am one step behind as I was planning my Holiday Mini catalog order for this week so I don’t yet own any of the products.

Today is a BIG day!  Our brand new Mohawk SmartStrand carpet is being installed in the great room and hallway to the boys rooms.  We knew our builder grade carpet was in bad shape, but as soon as the room was empty we realized just how ugly it really was.  We can see the paths we followed everyday for the last 6 1/2 years.  So last night I spent time barricaded in my bedroom with the dogs.  I’ll post a photo soon of how I puzzled 2 couches, 2 buffet cabinets, an upright piano, a 200+ lb TV and a Lazy-boy recliner into my dinette area.  It was jammed packed, hence why I was barricaded.  We gave the boys strict orders to yell for us if they needed anything in the middle of the night and told them that under no circumstance were they to walk in the furniture filled area.

Have a great Tuesday!  While the installers are here I’m going to stamp!  There isn’t much else I can do inside of the house while they are here anyway.

Blessed Fall

We got a taste of fall weather over the weekend and just missed the first frost last night.  I’m hoping to not have to turn on the furnace until November and this week we are supposed to warm up to 80 by mid-week again.  Maybe I’ll just be able to make it.  I did notice that the trees are all starting to turn and fall colors are some of my favorites.  I tried to capture that in my card.  I used Fall to Layout 110 and paired Autumn Splendor with Harvest Home.  They are both Stampin’ up! stamp sets.

Today I’m working on moving all of the furniture out of the living room.  The only things left right now are the piano and the TV.  I’ll need Roger’s help to move both of those.  Tomorrow the carpet installers should be working between 7 and 7:30.  I’ll have The Case of the Do as I Say and Not as I Do for you tomorrow.  Stop by for another SUO Challenge!

Autumn Thanks

The kids are in school so I’m making the most of my morning and headed right into my stamp room.  I like to start Monday mornings with a Clean and Simple challenge to get my mind working and what a better way to start than with watercoloring.  I love to color.  It’s such a relaxing thing to do.  I pulled out a Papertrey Ink set – Autumn Abundance and got to stamping and coloring.  I used a lot of fun fall colors (More Mustard, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler and Pumpkin Pie) and then offset them with a nice cool color for the vase (Marina Mist).  I think they pair well together.  I also used a strip of retired Autumn Traditions designer series paper from Stampin’ Up! at the bottom edge that was punched with the Scallop Trim punch.

Tomorrow I have a new card for the SUO Challenge Blog.  I hope you stop by and join in on the fun!

Stamps: PTI – Autumn Abundance
Paper: Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Autumn Traditions dsp
Ink: Basic Gray, Marina Mist, Bashful Blue, Night of Navy, Cajun Craze, More Mustard, Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie
Accessories: Scallop Trim Punch, Hemp Twine, Mat pack, AquaPainter, dimensionals

Simple Baby Girl

I have a quick Clean and Simple card today using Fall to Layout 106.  I used a Crumb Cake card stock base and stamped the retired Numbers wheel across in Crumb Cake ink.  The Sweet Pea designer series paper is 4 1/4 X 1 3/4″ and has both right corners rounded.  I then used my sewing machine to add the curvy stitch lines.  I have to have my mom look at the machine because I think my tension is messed up.  The stars are from Nursery Necessities and are stamped off in So Saffron ink and punched out with the Large and Small star punches. They are on dimensionals and have a half pearl in the center of each.  The sentiment is stamped in Rose Red ink.

This sweet girl is Cookie.  She is going to be a guest in our home for the next few weeks.  She is another foster dog that we took in last night.  She definitely knows we saved her just in time.  Doesn’t she look a lot like Bandit?  Thank goodness for the tail so that I can tell them apart when they are running past me in a blur in the yard.  Cookie is looking for her forever home!

Well I have 3 dogs in my house today so I’m super busy.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a Sketch for You to Try sample.

Stamps: Nursery Necessities, Numbers wheel
Paper: Crumb Cake, Sweet Pea dsp
Ink: So Saffron, Crumb Cake, Rose Red
Accessories: sewing machine, large and small star punches, half pearls, dimensionals, corner rounder

Simple Thanks

Today I have a quick clean and simple card using Fall to Layout 105.  I chose to work with Concord Crush, Basic Gray, Pretty in Pink and Whisper White. The stamp sets is Year of Flowers Lily of the Valley from Papertrey Ink.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for my Sketch for You to Try card.

One of a Kind Birthday Wishes

I have to admit I’m so happy Colin and Evan are back in school. It makes it so much easier to get a few things done when I’m all by myself. However yesterday I didn’t get any stamping done at all. I guess I’m lucky that I had this card on hand yet to show you. After drop off today I don’t have anything to do so I’m going to get stamps inky and onto paper.

Once again I used the Papertrey Ink set Four of a Kind.  This time I used it with a clean and simple Fall to Layout 103.  The colors are Baja Breeze, Early Espresso and Very Vanilla.  I used Daffodil Delight, Old Olive and Early Espresso for the ink colors.  The ribbon is retired Stampin’ Up! and I stuck on a butterfly that was laying on my desk along with some half pearls.  The main image panel is raised on dimensionals.

Beautiful Thanks

I hope you had a great weekend.  We took a 3 day weekend so that we could take the kids on a day trip yesterday.  We went out to Fair Oaks Farm, ate lunch, took the tour, played outside and had ice cream before heading home.  I also came home with cheese curds and a batch of them was just made yesterday.  There is something about fresh cheese that we can’t resist.  It’s absolutely delicious!

Today I set out on a quest to find a Dutch Oven and they are not as easy to find as I thought they would be and they are not inexpensive by any means.  I finally found one at Target that would fit the bill and not break the bank. Tonight I’m making Beer Braised Chicken and Twice Baked Rosemary Blue Potatoes.  I love the show 5 Ingredient Fix and I hope they taste as good as they looked.  I even learned out how to quarter a chicken for the dish.  I bought two whole chickens at Costco and I figured it wouldn’t be that hard to do, and surprisingly it wasn’t.  I found a video online and then got to work.

Since the day is winding down and I’ve been dreaming of the Fall to Layout 102 possibilities that is what I decided to stamp.  I started with a Crumb Cake base and adhered three 1 3/8″ circles from Sweet Pea designer series paper.  I distressed the edges and sewed the circles down.  I then added the Beautiful Wings butterflies from my stash on my desk in Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive and Crushed Curry.  I then used my Score Pal to add the embossed stripes and stamped the Trendy Trees sentiment in Soft Suede ink. I added more half pearls in between the sentiments, rounded the bottom corners and then sponged the edge of the card with Whisper White craft ink.  I really like how this card turned out.

Colin and Evan are going to Bears Camp for family night tonight.  I have Puppy class with Bandit and I have to get dinner in the oven soon so that we make it to our activities in time.  I’ll be back tomorrow with another creation for you to see.  I hope you have a great Monday evening!
