It’s Friday! It’s the last Friday of summer vacation and it’s the 13th. I’ve always loved Friday the 13th. I guess I’m not superstitious. I also own a black cat, I don’t throw salt over my shoulder when I spill it and I don’t see the harm in opening an umbrella in the house. I don’t walk under ladders, but it’s more of a fear that something may get dropped on my head. It’s been a good stamping day! I got two cards done – the one you see here and my Sketch for You to Try for tomorrow. I love them both!
For this card I combined the Friday Free For All on SCS with an Anni-Verve-sary sketch from Verve. I don’t own any Verve stamps yet, so I went with the Pure Innocence Fairy Girl from My Favorite Things.
Over the past few days I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how I watercolor. I am no means trained in it. I just eyeball it. I don’t use any fancy markers. I simply use a very loved AquaPainter from Stampin’ Up! and re-inkers in the lid of my ink pad. The first layer is always very watered down and I build up in intensity from there. I do get a lot of practice because I L-O-V-E to color! I find it relaxing and I can spend an hour coloring an image and getting it just right. I always remember that it looks best if it’s not perfect and I just go for it. About a year ago I uploaded a video to YouTube explaining how I go about watercoloring. The video is here.
I’m using up more retired Stampin’ Up! supplies and it was hard to have enough dsp for this card. I loved Cottage Wall and have only scraps left in the package, but I can’t bring myself to toss them. I also had a piece of Whisper White card stock that I embossed with the Lattice Embossing Folder, but it was not cut to the correct size for a previous card. I like how it looked with the striped paper. I also used the retired corner rounder because I liked the larger size of it and some Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot Grosgrain ribbon. Her wand has Frost White Shimmer Paint on it.
Tomorrow I have a card for Jen’s Sketch for You to Try. I am thrilled with how it turned out. I hope you stop by to see it and hopefully play along with us.
