Autumn Gratitude

This morning I started my library duty in Colin’s school.  It was fun to be out of the house and helping out.  I don’t get to see Colin’s class while I’m there, but I did catch a glimpse of him during the fire drill.  I haven’t had to take part in a school fire drill in almost 8 years.  From there it was right to pick up Evan and then I got some time to stamp.

I used Mercy’s Sketch for this card and it’s headed out for the mailbox today. I used Certain Celery, Cajun Craze and Soft Suede for my colors.  The background is sprayed with Smootch Spritz to break up all of the Whisper White.  I used some Chocolate Chip Satin ribbon that is retired for the bow.  The stamps are Autumn Splendor and Define Your Life.

It’s almost time for Colin’s bus and I have dinner to get done so he can make it to Cub Scouts in time.

Best of Your Kind

Today I have a card that uses a lot of stamps.  I pulled up Mercy’s Tuesday Sketch Challenge and decided I wanted to make my own patterned paper.  I pulled out Dot Spot from Papertrey Ink and stamped the Whisper White layer in Baja Breeze, Cajun Craze and Wild Wasabi.  Some images were stamped off to make them softer looking.  I then added paper piercing and distressing to that layer before matting it with Cajun Craze card stock.  Another piece of Cajun Craze card stock was embossed with the Lattice Embossing Folder and then attached to the card.  I added a strip of Wild Wasabi punched with the Scallop Trim punch and a retired piece of Baja Breeze double striped ribbon.  The main image is a Crumb Cake layer cut out with an oval nestability and then sponged with Whisper White craft ink.  I stamped the leaf from Four of a Kind from Papertrey Ink in Wild Wasabi and then added the Cajun Craze flowers.  Two are cut out and popped up on dimensionals.  The sentiment is from Autumn Abundance, also from Papertrey Ink.  It is punched out with the Word Window Punch.

It looks like it may be a cooler day today.  I’m hoping for some more rain.  This morning I picked Cookie up from the vet.  She is now fully vetted and ready for adoption!  I bet she is going to make some family very happy.  Now I just need to let her rest and recover from her spay surgery and she’ll be ready to go.

Mambo Smiles and Exciting News

I apologize for not getting a post up yesterday.  My sister is staying with us and I took on a big outdoor project this weekend.  I decided on Saturday morning that I’d go to the local nursery to attend their tree auction.  Each year they auction of shrubs and trees and I’ve never had a chance to attend.  I ended up with the winning bid on 2 Serviceberry trees.  So on Saturday Roger and I hauled home two trees and planted them.  I’m not kidding when I say that it’s exhausting work.  Sunday we barely did anything besides a few errands and yesterday I had a dentist appointment and I volunteered for the school district with Market Day pick up.

Today I decided to combine Mercy’s Tuesday Sketch #89 with the color challenge at SCS.  This color combo was a stretch for me – Melon Mambo, More Mustard and Baja Breeze.  I can’t say it’s something I would have come up with on my own, but I like the way the card turned out.  I used Four of a Kind from Papertrey Ink.

I have some exciting news to share with you!  I’ve accepted a Design Team position for SUO Challenges.  If you don’t know SUO stands for Stampin’ Up! Only.  The challenges will start next month on September 7th.  I am no longer a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator but these challenges are for demonstrators and customers alike that enjoy using Stampin’ Up! products.  I hope you’ll check the challenges out and play along with us.  You can find the challenge blog here.  Challenges will take place every other Tuesday.

Razzleberry Blossoms

One thing I have been trying to do is to use up all of the Designer Series Paper I have from the last Stampin’ Up! catalog before I invest in full packs of the new stuff.  That is one thing I was really bad at doing when I was a Demonstrator.  As soon as the new stuff was out I *needed* it and ignored my retiring items.  I paired Razzleberry Lemonade designer series paper with the new Apple Blossoms Hostess set.  I love stamping the image twice to get the darker and lighter shades.  I also love the variation in height and how much it adds to the card.

This card is for Mercy’s Sketch Challenge and I believe it’s number 86.  I used a lot of different layers.  The base is Rich Razzleberry and then I layered Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White that I ran through the Big Shot with the Lattice embossing Folder.  I added a strip of Razzleberry Lemonade dsp in the Melon Mambo grid pattern and then a strip of Crushed Curry textured card stock.  The main image panel is just a repetition of the bottom layer.  I used Hemp Twine and a Neutrals button to add texture and dimension.  It was really easy to line up the sentiment on the grid paper with the acrylic block.  I love being able to see my placement and I’ve noticed I’ve cut down on the amount that I use my Stamp-a-ma-jig, although it’s an item I’ll never part with.

There is just one more week of Summer Vacation!  The boys both start back to school on August 19th and I can’t wait!  Even though Evan will just have 1/2 days I’m planning on spending my mornings working in my stamp room.  That’s sure to help me use up all of my retired papers.
