Magical Spring Day

Posted on

On Saturday I had the afternoon all to myself and I spent some time in between doing household chores stamping. I started with My Favorite Things WSC13. I wanted to go with a nice soft Shabby Chic look and I pulled out scraps of paper that I had left over from making Christmas gifts for Colin and Evan’s teachers. I cannot find the information on it for the life of me. I know I picked a 6X6 pad up at Hobby Lobby, so if you know what this dsp is called let me know so I can give credit where credit is due. I paired it with Crumb Cake, Pink Pirouette and Very Vanilla. I just adore this little Fairy Girl and she is so much fun to watercolor or paper piece. The rolled rose is also from a dienamic die from My Favorite Things. I wanted a trio of embellishments so I paired it with some Vintage Springtime buttons from Papertrey Ink.

I started my day out at the Y this morning and I am feeling very sore. I’m glad I’m done though and it looks like a rainy day outside, so hopefully after lunch I’ll get more stamping in. Yesterday we were blessed with a 78 degree day and we spent most of it outside enjoying the weather. Today it’s 30 degrees cooler. At least we got a taste of spring and warm weather on a weekend though.

I figured I’d also share what I have on my cardio playlist: Black Eyed Peas: Boom Boom Pow, Meet Me Halfway and I Gotta Feeling, Down by Jay Sean, Fireflies by Owl City, Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire, Poker Face by Lady Gaga, Single Ladies by Beyonce, and Tik Tok by Ke$ha.

Happy Monday to all of you!

Jenn

RAWR with Pizzazz

I decided to combine the SCS color challenge (Pear Pizzazz, Baja Breeze and Marina Mist) with My Favorite Things WSC12. I just love this dinosaur stamp set along with the sentiments. Having 2 boys in the house I find myself using it a lot for cards for them or for their friends.

The base of the card is Marina Mist, followed by Pear Pizzazz that was run through the big shot with the Friends definition texturz plate. I then sponged the edges and sewed around the border. I then stamped in Marina Mist ink onto the Baja Breeze paper with Wild Thing sentiment. I sponged the edges and again sewed around the edges.  The next layer is Marina Mist. I sponged the edges, added score lines and paper piercing and then attached it to the base layers and added the natural hemp twine bow.  The main image is stamped on Watercolor paper and colored in with Stampin’ Up! markers in Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Blush Blossom. I cut it out and attached it to Whisper White that was matted on Pear Pizzazz. I added the Brights button with linen thread to the bottom corner of the main image panel.

I’m trying to find out where this week has gone to. I have to seriously try to get both boys in swimming lessons on the same week night. We will have spent 3 evenings at the YMCA for swimming (Evan had a make up class), 1 night at Cub Scout, 1 at Religion class and the only night we have at home is Friday night. I’m exhausted and I almost don’t feel like going to the YMCA this morning. However, I am going to head out in a little bit because I know I’ll have more energy afterward.

Happy Thursday!

Official Newsprint Roses

I’m taking a break from the gym today. Yesterday morning I went to lift weights and then the afternoon was so beautiful Evan and I took a walk after his Kindergarten registration was complete and then Roger joined us for a second walk while Colin was in church. My body needs a rest, so this morning I plan to stamp a few more things.

I do have a card to share with you that features several Papertrey Ink stamp sets, the sketch challenge from SCS from last week and this weeks Color Challenge.  For a sketch that I would normally shy away from I love that I attempted it and how it turned out. The rolled roses come from a My Favorite Things die-namics die.  It’s hard to see in the smaller flowers but each flower has a half pearl as the center.  All of the supplies are listed at the bottom of this post.

I hope you have a fantastic St. Patrick’s Day, if you are celebrating it. The corned beef, cabbage and potatoes are in the crock pot simmering away. I also have some fabulous Irish Soda Bread. I wish Jewel carried it all year long instead of only around this time of the year. Then we have plans to go to get a Mint Oreo shake or cement mixer at Culver’s after dinner. YUM!

Stamps: Papertrey Ink: It’s Official, Background Basics Newsprint, Four of a Kind

Birthday-saurus – SFYTT

When it rains, it certainly pours.  I mentioned that Colin and Evan both have strep throat.  Evan has been moping around with a 104.3 fever.  He always gets really high fevers, and they always worry me when he is just laying around and not wanting to play or do anything.  He’s been on Motrin and Tylenol nonstop since Wednesday night to control the fever.  Then on Thursday night Roger heard something dripping in the crawl space.  It turns out that a pipe from our laundry room sprung a leak and I had to have a plumber out to cut open the wall in our laundry room and replace the section that was leaking.  I can understand this happening if our house was old, but it was only built 6 years ago.  Luckily we caught it right as it happened and it didn’t cause a big mess.

This weekend we have a birthday party for a 6 year old on Sunday.  I’m hoping that Evan wakes up without a fever today so we can hopefully go tomorrow.  I pulled out my favorite My Favorite Things stamp set, Little Loveosaurus and got to work.  I paired it up with some of my favorite Celebrations designer series paper from Stampin’ Up!.  I pulled Pacific Point, Bashful Blue, Real Red and Pear Pizzazz to work with the colors in the paper.  The 6 is covered in Whisper White craft ink and then Heat and Stick Powder.  I heated it up with my heat tool and then dumped on Dazzling Diamonds glitter before heating it a 2nd time.  You can see a little of the sparkle in this photo.

This week Jen gave us the chance to pick any previous Sketch for You to Try to work with.  This one is from January 2009.  Here is the sketch I used:
I hope you come and play along with us! Simply pick a past sketch and make a card with it.

Have a great weekend!  We are preparing for 3 – 5″ of snow.  I’m not excited but I’ve heard the boys planning snowmen, snow forts and lots of time outside in it.

Girly-Saurus Birthday – SFYTT

Every time I work with Little Loveosaurs from My Favorite Things I make a boy card, but why do the monsters always have to be male?  Instead I decided to make a “girly-saurus” for a birthday party we will be attending today.  Colin is taking this card along with a notebook that I made yesterday with the Cinch.

I used Rich Razzleberry for the base of my card.  The Old Olive layer was run through the Big Shot with the large Polka Dot Texturz Plate.  I then added two strips of  paper piercing with my sewing machine and then added the strip of dsp from Razzleberry Lemonade.  The Pumpkin Pie layer is more of the dsp.  I stamped Wild Thing in Pumpkin Pie and alternated stamping the image off for a more muted look.  I then embossed around the edge with a scoring tool.  The main image is stamped on Shimmery White cardstock and is watercolored with Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry and Blush Blossom ink.  I distressed the edges with the Cutters Tool Kid.  The sentiment tag is Crushed Curry and die cut and embossed with Nestabilities.  I added a Rich Razzleberry button threaded with Linen Thread before being attached to the card.

Here is the sketch Jen as for us this week. It was a fun one to work with. I hope you have a chance to play along with us this week. If you need more inspiration please check out the fabulous Sketch for You to Try Sisters:

I’m hoping we can have a more relaxing weekend. We have Lowes Build and Grow, a soccer game and a birthday party. However that is all we have planned for the weekend!  I’ll show you the two other notebooks I made yesterday early in the week.

Sweet and Magical – SFYTT

I have no idea how another Saturday snuck up on me. It seems like each week we get busier and busier and this week was no exception, although we did get a lot done. Colin had his follow up Echo. His last one was when he was 3 and they said they’d repeat it when we was 6 or 7. I realized that he’s be 8 in a little over 6 months, so I got it scheduled. It happened to be the same day Evan got his cast off. His elbow is healed and the Dr. said he sees no reason to follow up unless he complains about it but he didn’t think that would be the case.  We also squeezed in speech, soccer, a school Open House, Religion class and Cub Scouts.  Whew, I’m excited it’s Saturday but I know we are going to be running around once again.

I had a lot of fun with Jen’s Sketch for You to Try this week and I pulled out colors that to me are bright and that I wouldn’t normally work with.  I used Sweet and Sour Specialty dsp from Stampin’ Up! and paired it with a PI Fairy Girl from My Favorite Things.  I paper pieced her dress and watercolored the rest with my AquaPainter.

Here is the sketch for this week. I stuck pretty much to it this time. I do have to figure out what is going on with my sewing machine. It sews fine on straight stitches but the zig zag has been messed up. I thought I had it figured out. I hope you have a chance to play along with us. If you are in need of more inspiration make sure to check out the fabulous samples from the Sketch for You to Try Sisters.

Today we are going to the half Paddy Day festival at church. We go to St. Patrick’s and they like to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day twice a year. There is a kids band at noon. We then have to leave for a soccer game but we have tickets for the Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner.  It’s supposed to be a gorgeous weekend.  Have a good one!

Happy Day Celebration

Colin and Evan had good first days of school. I can’t get over how crowded Evan’s preschool class is. On Wednesdays they have 28 students!  It’s a good thing that they have 3 teachers in there.  I’d go crazy.  Colin told me that they have 10 boys and 10 girls.  He knows 5 of the boys already from the neighborhood, school and Cub Scouts.  He’s excited to find out more about the rest of them. I’m just happy that they both like school and it’s back in session!

I’m continuing on with my Anni-Verve-sary sketches.  I’ve pulled out some Celebrations designer series paper and I love the colors in it.  So bright and fun!  I bet you’ll see me using more of this combination soon.  I paired it up with an a la mode from My Favorite Things called Time to Celebrate.

This weekend I need to read up on photographing cards with glitter. I used a Clear Star glitter pen on the icing and it shimmers in real life. In the first photo my cake looks funky and the 2nd doesn’t pick up the sparkle. Someday I will figure it out.

Well I’m off to get some stamping done before it’s time to head back and pick up Evan.
